Hace poco más de una semana llegó hasta mi nuevo hogar, en Inglaterra, un paquete lleno de regalitos de alguien que me quiere mucho y me conoce bien. Allí estaba ella: mi primera pluma Sailor.
One week ago, more or less, I received in my new home, in England, a package filled with gifts from someone who loved me and came to know me very well. There it was: my first Sailor fountain pen.
La primera vez que escuché hablar de ella y la probé fue durante un taller de caligrafía en la Biblioteca Nacional, y no llamó mucho mi atención, no le vi nada especial.
The first time I heard about it and tried this pen was during a calligraphy workshop in the National Library (Spain), and I didn’t like it, I not felling well.
Un par de meses más tarde en el Taller Artístico, Gustavo la mencionó de nuevo, y por más que me dejó probarla, no me atrapaba. Me escudaba en el «yo es que soy de grafito, a la tinta no le termino coger el punto«.
A couple of months later in El Taller Artístico de Huelva, Gustavo mentioned it again, and as much as he let me try it, did not catch me. I was shielded saying «I love graphite, the ink don’t fall me in love«.

Así llegó el día en que, tras un mes lleno de tinta, la pluma Sailor volvió a cruzarse conmigo, mi regalo incluía cargador pero ni lo vi de la emoción, y por eso tengo pendiente probarla con mis tintas favoritas. Si quieres que te cuente mis progresos con ella, házmelo saber en los comentarios 😉
Then came the day when, after a month full of ink, the Sailor pen came back to cross with me. My gift included a converter, but I did not see it because I was very excited, and for that reason, I have pending try it with my favorite inks. Con todos estos datos previos, te contaré, que se trata de una pluma caligráfica con la punta torcida (como cuando se te cae un pilot de punta y ahí termina vuestra aventura juntos). Se distinguen según el grado de inclinación de la punta con respecto a la horizontal (cuán levantada está) y esto determina el grosor del trazo.
With all that, I will tell you, that it is a calligraphic pen with a crooked tip (like when you drop a Pilot and end your adventure together). They are distinguished according to the degree of inclination of the tip with respect to the horizontal (how inclined it is) and this determines the thickness of the stroke line.
En el pack viene la pluma y dos cartuchos negros, puedes comprar el cargador a parte y así poder usarla con la tinta que tú prefieras.

Sus trazos son distintos según la inclinación y no por la presión, esto hace que sea raro al principio.

Cuanto más perpendicular al papel más fino el trazo.

También hace distinto el trazo vertical que el horizontal.

A 45º aprox. el trazo es medio. Es un medio finito y esto, para mí, es una de sus genialidades.

Y casi paralela al papel el trazo se hace más grueso.

Llegando en horizontal a unos 2.5mm más o menos.

La tinta que traen los cartuchos se puede aplicar sin problema sobre distintas técnicas (De izquierda a derecha y de arriba a abajo: tinta directa sobre papel – tinta sobre colerase de Prismacolor // tinta sobre gouache – tinta sobre acuarela – tinta sobre Polycrhomos – tinta sobre Prismacolor Premier – tinta sobre grafito).
The ink that the cartridges bring can be applied without problems on different techniques (From left to right and from top to bottom: direct ink on paper – ink on colerase from Prismacolor // ink on gouache – ink on watercolor – ink on Polycrhomos – ink On Prismacolor Premier – ink on graphite)
También puedes usar encima de la tinta distintas técnicas. Ten cuidado con las húmedas pues dependiendo del tipo de papel, la tinta se diluye o no. El que ves en la foto es de 75gsm y sorpredentemente en él la tinta no se diluye. He probado en el de 110gsm de los sketching journal de la casa Ryman y sí se diluye (pero en este papel la letra queda genial).
You can also use different techniques on top of the ink. Be careful with the wet techniques because depending on the type of paper, the ink is diluted or not. The one you see in the photo is 75gsm and surprisingly in it, the ink is not diluted. I have tested in the 110gsm of the sketching journal of the Ryman house and yes it is diluted (but in this paper the letter looks great).
De nuevo, de izquierda a derecha y de arriba a abajo: grafito sobre tinta – Polychromos sobre tinta – Prismacolor Premier sobre tinta – acuarela sobre tinta – gouache sobre tinta – tinta golden yelllow sobre tinta Sailor.
Again, from left to right and from top to bottom: graphite on ink – Polychromos on ink – Prismacolor Premier on ink – watercolor on ink – gouache on ink – golden yellow ink on Sailor ink.
Por último, quiero mostrarte cómo se comportan otras herramientas con las que puedes conseguir ese trazo modulado, personal y expresivo, ya que según tú estilo, puedes preferir unas u otras. Para mi tipo de trazo, de momento, prefiero la pluma Sailor a los kuretake de punta rígida. Me quedo con el de punta de pincel y la Sailor, ya que ambas dan resultados diferentes. Para llevar siempre conmigo la Sailor, que escribir textos largos con el pincel no es una opción, al menos para mi.
Finally, I want to show you how other tools with which you can get that modulated stroke, personal and expressive, because according to your style, you can prefer one or the other. For my type of stroke, at the moment, I prefer the Sailor pen to the kuretake with a rigid tip. I prefer the kuretake brush tip and the Sailor, because they both give different results. To always carry Sailor with me, that writing long texts with the brush is not an option, at least for me.
Ahora, después de probarla en el momento justo… confieso… ¡me ha robado el corazón! Ya no salgo sin ella, ahora puedo salir sin grafito pero no sin Sailor, y es que además de conseguir el «trazo tensionado», que a mi me enamora (así llamábamos en la escuela a la línea con distintos grosores; esto da carácter, volumen y expesividad a la linea), y mi letra con esa pluma es genial.
Now, after trying it at the right time … I confess … it has stolen my heart! I do not go out without it, now I can leave without graphite but not without Sailor, and that in addition to getting the «strained line», which I love (so we called in the school to the line with different thickness, this line has character, volume and is very expressive [I don’t know if this concept is correct in English. If you know how it called I’ll be glad to learn it! ]), and my letter with that pen is great.
