What have I learned in the book «Urban Watercolor Sketching» by Felix Scheinberger?

A few weeks ago, I told you that the trick to being able to use the stamps with your watercolors had occurred to me when I was reading the book Watercolor for urban sketchers, by Felix Scheinberger. I knew the book during my last visit to the Taller Artístico de Huelva, and since I knew Felix will teach a workshop there, I wanted to read it.

Hace unas semanas mencioné que el truco para poder usar los sellos con acuarelas se me había ocurrido leyendo el libro de Felix Scheinberger, Acuarela para urban sketchers. Conocí el libro durante mi última visita al Taller Artístico de Huelva y desde que supe que Felix impartirá un taller allí quise leerlo.

Is a not complex book, speaks about the world of watercolors from the origin of the pigments and the basic procedures of the technique, to sharing their tricks and supplies. For me, the great value of the book are the tricks I have tried and in the new ideas that have emerged from there.

Es un libro bastante sencillo, aborda el mundo de las acuarelas desde el origen de los pigmentos y los procedimientos básicos de la técnica de la acuarela, compartiendo sus trucos y materiales. Para mi el gran valor del libro ha residido en los trucos que he probado y en las nuevas ideas que han surgido de allí.

By its title, I presumed more storytelling and more depth, however, the book has made me try and discover new things, it deserves to be mentioned. I’m really excited to meet Felix and learn from him. I’ll tell you in a few months how it will be gone 😉

Por su título esperaba más de storytelling y más profundidad, sin embargo si el libro me ha hecho probar y descubrir cosas nuevas, merece que te lo mencione. Tengo muchas ganas de conocer a Felix y aprender directamente de él. Ya te contaré en unos meses cómo ha ido 😉

«Once upon a time», the beautiful inktober-fanzine by Eva Carot

With her Inktober2016, Eva Carot has created this fanzine. It is wonderful. You can buy it on her Etsy store. Is a fanzine full of ink and emotion. Eva has taken care with the edition and the production.

Con su Inktober2016, Eva Carot creó este fanzine que es una maravilla. Puedes comprarlo en su tienda Etsy. Mucha tinta y emoción. Además del mimo que se nota que ha puesto Eva en su maquetación y producción.

It is a numbered edition, so you get home something almost unique.

Se trata de una edición numerada, así que te llega a casa algo casi único.

I met Eva through her blog and her the wonderful letters to The Three Wise Men. I still have got them.

Conocí a Eva a través de su blog, y sus maravillosas cartas a Sus Majestades de Oriente que aún conservo.

Since then I have not been able to stop following his work. This postcard, I was very excited to receive it, accompanies me at my desk here in the UK, surrounded by people I admire.

Desde entonces no he podido dejar de seguir de cerca su trabajo. Esta postalita, que me hizo mucha ilusión recibir, me acompaña en mi escritorio aquí en UK, rodeada de gente a la que admiro.

One of the illustrations of Eva’s challenge that I had been in love with was this Alice, so far from certain stereotypes and so she. And I’m lucky that in the fanzine is a double page <3

Una de las ilustraciones del reto de Eva que me habían enamorado, fue esta Alicia, tan lejos de ciertos estereotipos y tan ella. Y tengo la suerte de que en el fanzine está a doble página <3

The fanzine is designed as a pocket-sized notebook, retaining details like the back pocket, what has secrets.

El fanzine está maquetado a modo de cuaderno de bolsillo, conservando detalles como el bolsillo trasero, qué guarda los secretos.

How to use stamps with watercolors?

 

I once tried using watercolors with stamps and did not get the results I imagined. Many years later, when I had discarded that idea, but while I’m devouring the book Watercolor for Urban Sketchers, I found a possible solution.

Alguna vez intenté usar las acuarelas con los sellos y no conseguí los resultados que imaginaba. Muchos años después, cuando había desechado la idea, pero devorando el libro Acuarela para Urban Sketchers, encontré la solución.

I knew the work of Felix Scheinberger in the art workshop. Thank you, Gustavo, for sharing this reference with me. And when I found out about the opportunity to do a workshop with him, it seemed great. I’m exciting!

Conocí el trabajo de Felix Scheinberger en el taller artístico de Huelva. Gracias Gustavo por compartirlo conmigo. Y cuando me enteré de la oportunidad de hacer un taller con él me pareció genial. ¡Qué ganas!

The book proposes different exercises and a trip around the world through the pigments and their history. Felix insists on discovering through experimentation. One of the exercises he proposes is creating your own stamps carving potatoes because the starch allows the pigment of the watercolor does not blur when you stamp it. That made me had a lightbulb moment…

El libro propone diferentes ejercicios además de un viaje alrededor del mundo a través de los pigmentos y su historia. Uno de los consejos que más repite es el descubrimiento a través de la experimentación y uno de los ejercicios que propone es crear tus propios sellos para usar con acuarelas carvando patata, pues es el almidón el que permite que el pigmento de la acuarela no se desdibuje al estampar. Eso encendió mi bombilla…

… What happens if I try to grease with a potato the seal before using the watercolors? Well that works!! I think this opens the field a lot because you do not have to reduce the color palette of your stamps to the inks you can use them with your color palette, Isn’t it great?

… ¿Y si pruebo a untar con una patata el sello antes de usar las acuarelas? ¡¡Pues que funciona!! Considero que esto abre muchísimo el campo pues no tienes que reducir la paleta de color de tus sellos a las tintas puedes usarlos con tu paleta de color ¿no es genial?
