I have been apart because I needed to fallow the blog to cultivate other facets. The result is a great chaos in the studio (if you follow me on Instagram, you already saw the huge mess); although I begin to clarify myself.

He tardado en volver, necesitaba dejar el blog en barbecho para cultivar otras facetas. El resultado es un gran caos en el estudio (si me sigues en Instagram en stories pudiste ver que no sólo lo digo en sentido figurado); aunque también te confieso que empiezo a aclararme.
One of my learnings has been to discover that I hadn’t lost my reading ability, just the internet steals time, a lot. More time than we are aware of. So, at last, I read Colour, Travels Through the Paintbox by Victoria Finlay.
Uno de mis aprendizajes ha sido descubrir que no había perdido mi capacidad lectora simplemente internet roba tiempo, y mucho. Más del que somos conscientes. Así que al fin le hinqué el diente a Colores de Victoria Finlay.
I have read it in Spanish because I purchased this book a long time ago. I discovered it at the Panamericana in Bogotá, it stood out from the shelf but I decided to wait until the end of the trip to know that it was definitely worth flying back to Spain with it in the suitcase. I became obsessed with the book and ended up buying it, I started it but soon I let my hypersaturated routine of activities devour my time of leisure reading and I always ended up quitting it.
Lo he leído en español porque este libro lleva muchos años conmigo. Lo descubrí en la Panamericana en Bogotá, me gritó desde el estante pero decidí esperar hasta el final del viaje para saber que seguro merecía la pena volar de vuelta a España con él en la maleta. El resultado es que me obsesioné con el libro y terminé comprándolo, lo empecé pero pronto dejé que mi rutina hipersaturada de actividades se comiera el tiempo de lectura ociosa y siempre terminaba por abandonarlo.
Year after year, on vacation, I’ve tried again and again. I couldn’t comprehend why I left over and over, and I start it again. Something told me that I wanted to read it, but now I know it was not the time. In fact, I am very surprised by that crush when my head and my interests were focused on other things.
Año tras año en vacaciones lo intentaba una y otra vez, y de manera incomprensible para mi tantas veces lo dejaba como volvía a empezarlo. Algo me decía que quería leerlo, pero ahora sé no era el momento. De hecho me sorprende mucho aquel flechazo cuando mi cabeza y mis inquietudes estaban con otro foco.
Now, I know it is the time to read it and devour it. Just when I start to question my desaturated palette. Just when I need color. Just when I start experimenting with materials and pigments. Just when I doubt, almost, everything.
Ahora sé que ha sido el momento justo para leerlo y devorarlo. Justo cuando empiezo a cuestionar mi paleta desaturada. Justo cuando necesito color. Justo cuando empiezo a experiementar con materiales y pigmentos. Justo cuando dudo de casi todo.
Reading it has been an incredible experience, I have learned a lot about pigments and their origin. I have missed deepening more in the origins of some pigments when it advances in the rainbow. In some chapters, the anecdote that serves as a thread take the focus of the story over the origins and the characteristics of the pigment per se. When I’ve done the search for this post, I have understood why the book talks about travels. Something that the Spanish readers missed on the translate.
Leerlo ha sido una experiencia increíble, he aprendido mucho acerca de los pigmentos y su origen. He echado de menos que cuando avanza en el arcoíris profundice más en los orígenes. En algunos capítulos la anécdota que sirve de hilo conductor se come ese origen que da por sabido, se centra más en la experiencia y el viaje que en las características del pigmento en sí. El por qué lo he sabido buscando el libro en su título original, el libro habla de viajes.
I would still love to have a coffee with Victoria and spend hours talking about pigments. This is another gift from this book, I have understood, now I know that I’m not the only one who goes crazy talking about pigments, experimenting with «things» because of the color they give to the paper and the texture I can see on it, but above all, by how they reflect light. I have understood why the light is so important to me.
Aún así me encantaría tomarme un café con Victoria y pasar horas hablando de pigmentos. Porque esta es otra de los regalos de esta lectura, me he comprendido, ahora sé que no soy la única que se vuelve loca hablando de pigmentos, que experimenta y guarrea con «cosas» por el color que dan y la textura, pero sobre todo por cómo reflejan la luz. He comprendido por qué para mí es tan importante la luz.
The journey that I have taken from the sofa through its pages has been so amazing that I have wanted to be the theme of this season on the blog.
